Tune your position

Three settings shape a position: how wide your range is, how long it waits before moving, and where earned fees go. Each one is a trade. Here is what each one changes, with real numbers and a range designer you can play with.

In short

  • Narrow range: more fees per dollar while price is inside, but price walks out more often. Wide range: the reverse.
  • Every pool has a smallest possible range, set by its tick spacing. On today's live pool that is 2.02%.
  • The snuggle delay (anything from 0 to 7 days, your choice) makes a position wait out brief spikes before an automatic snuggle.
  • You can change width and delay later. New values apply at the next snuggle.

01 · Width

Range width

Why not just pick the widest range and relax? Because your deposit only earns while the price is inside its range, and the same money spread over more prices is thinner at each one.

Width controls two things at once: how concentrated your liquidity is, and how easily price walks out.

Fee concentration versus range widthA falling curve. At 2.02% full span a dollar works like about 200 dollars spread over every price. At about 17% it is about 25 times, and at 100% about 6 times. A bar underneath shows narrow ranges leave the range more often.500×200×100×50×20×10×5×2×1%2%5%10%20%50%100%200%400%Range width (full span, log scale)2.02% → 200×narrowest on the live 1% pool17.35% → 25×the app's starting width100% → 6×Price leaves your range: more oftenless often
Computed: concentration = 1 ÷ (1 − (low ÷ high)¼) for a range centred on price, compared with the same money spread over every price. The bottom bar is a direction, not a measurement.

Put simply: at the narrowest width on today's live pool, each dollar earns like roughly 200 dollars spread across every price. At the app's starting width it is about 25×. At 100% wide it is about 6×. Those multiples only apply while price is inside.

The squeeze works both waysThe concentration that multiplies fees also magnifies impermanent loss while price moves inside the range. A narrow range also runs out of room sooner. Width is a trade, not a free upgrade.

How the app writes a width

The app shows width in two ways, for example 17.35% full span (±8.33% from price).

  • Full span is how far the top edge sits above the bottom edge: (high ÷ low − 1) × 100.
  • ± from price is how far each edge sits from the middle.

Why ±8.33% and not ±8.68%?

Price steps multiply, they don't add. Going up 8.33% twice gives the full span:

1.0833 × 1.0833 ≈ 1.1735 → 17.35% full span

In ticks: 1,600 ticks wide means 1.00011600 − 1 = 17.35% full span, and 1.0001800 − 1 = 8.33% each side.

The smallest range a pool allows

A pool only lets a range start and stop on certain price steps. The smallest step is one tick (0.01%), but a range can't start or stop on just any tick. It only allows every Nth one, where N is its tick spacing. So the narrowest range is one spacing wide.

Illustration: the range can't start or stop between rungs, so it snaps to the nearest ones. That is also why a range can sit a little off-centre.

Computed as 1.0001spacing − 1 for the full span, and 1.0001spacing ÷ 2 − 1 for each side. Aerodrome pools are listed by tick spacing rather than fee, so read the spacing directly.

Today's limitsThe live vaults on Robinhood Chain and Base accept widths from 200 to 60,000 ticks, and each width must be a whole number of the pool's spacing. For example, USDG/DELL is a 1% pool with spacing 200, so its narrowest range is exactly one step: 2.02%.
03 · Timing

Snuggle delay

The delay is a waiting room. When price leaves your range, it sets how long the position must stay out before the keeper may snuggle it: close the old range and open a new one of the same width right next to the current price. No swap happens. The new range uses the token you now hold.

A short delay follows every move. A long delay ignores spikes that snap back, but the position earns nothing while it waits outside.

Price leaves the range and stays out, so the position is snuggled after the delayyour range 95–105new range: same width, just below price0h1h2h3h4h5h6hyour delay (2h here)1234
Computed from a simple price path: the dashed line is the 30-minute average of the solid line. Times and prices are an example.
  1. The live price crosses your top edge. Nothing happens yet.
  2. The 30-minute average crosses too. At its next check (about every 1–3 minutes) the keeper starts the clock.
  3. Your delay counts down. Price stays out, so the position earns nothing here.
  4. Snuggle. Price rose, so you now hold the stablecoin side, and the new range opens just below price, ready to buy back on a dip.

Presets in the app

Rather not pick numbers? The deposit screen offers three presets. Each one sets a width and a delay together, and the app shows the exact width and delay on each preset card before you choose.

  • Mad Max: the tightest band with a short delay (6 hours unless Quantum Drive suggests otherwise). Dense fees, frequent snuggles.
  • Best Fit: a middle band with a longer delay (typically 14 hours; Quantum Drive's suggestion replaces it when the pool has history).
  • Easygoing: a wide band chosen to stay in range most of the time. Without Quantum Drive data it uses the widest band and a 24-hour delay. With Quantum Drive data it uses the optimizer's comfort pick, which can have a shorter delay.

Width × delay at a glance

Four corners, four personalities. Most setups land somewhere between them.

Settings matrix: range width across, delay upTight and patient: dense fees, waits after an exit. Wide and patient: calmest, fewest snuggles. Tight and quick: most fees per dollar, snuggles often. Wide and quick: steady, follows price soon after an exit.Tight and patientDense fees while price is inside. After an exit, waits a long time.Pays off if price tends to return;sits idle if price trends away.Wide and patientFewest snuggles of all four.Lowest fees per dollar.Rarely leaves range, but when itdoes, it can sit idle for a while.Tight and quickMost fees per dollar in range.Snuggles often, chasing price. Each snuggle turns that range'sloss vs holding into a real one.Wide and quickLeaves range less often.Follows price soon after it does.Steady, with lower fee density.narrowRange widthwideshortlongDelay
Rule of thumb: width decides how much you earn per dollar; delay decides how quickly you follow price. Neither removes loss.

Why does "loss vs holding" become real at a snuggle? The new range starts fresh from the tokens you hold at that moment, so any gap from holding is locked in. Read more in impermanent loss, and see whether fees are keeping up with Cover Value.

Design a range

Pick a price, a fee tier and a width. The designer snaps your range to real rungs, the same way the app does.

07 · Fees

Where your fees go

The third setting decides what happens to earned fees at each snuggle:

Option in the appWhat happens
Half in, half outdefaultHalf of the fees in the token your new range holds go back in. The rest comes to your wallet.
Auto-compound allEvery fee the new range can use goes back in.
Send to walletAll fees are paid out to you.

Because a new range holds only one token, fees in the other token are always paid to your wallet. Between snuggles, fees wait in the pool until you press Collect Fees or Compound. The fee we take is covered in Performance & Fees.

08 · Later

Changing settings later

Tap the pencil on a position's Range box to open the strategy editor.

  • Edit width or delay
  • Saved on-chain
  • Used at next snuggle
  • A direct update restarts any out-of-range countdown. A queued change waits for the next snuggle and leaves the countdown running.

10 · FAQ

Quick answers

Does a wider range protect me from loss?

It feels the same move less, but it also earns less per dollar. It does not remove loss. See impermanent loss.

What does a delay of 0 do?

The keeper may snuggle at its next check after it starts the clock. The 30-minute average still has to leave the range first, so it is never instant.

Why isn't my range perfectly centred?

Both edges must land on a usable rung. On a 1% pool the rungs are about 2% apart, so the snap can shift the band slightly.

If the keeper stops, am I stuck?

No. You can still withdraw at any time, and you can snuggle a position yourself once it is out of range. Only automatic snuggles stop.
